Winter Festival Programming at the Museum of Newport History

February 10, 2015

Looking for an outing during this chilly winter? The Museum of Newport History offers educational and enlightening exhibits ideal for those looking to stretch their legs during Newport Winter Festival (February 13-22, 2015) and the February school vacation.

Visitors to the Museum of Newport History can learn about the city’s storied three centuries of history. Alongside exhibit highlights, such as the Franklin Printing Press and the writing desk that belonged to 19th century author Clement C. Moore, view videos onboard the reproduction Omnibus which highlight colonial Newport and the history of Bellevue Avenue.

The exhibit Flowers of the Ocean: A History of Seaweed Collecting in Newport shares the history of this popular 19th century ladies pastime and features copies of seaweed arrangements that are in the Newport Historical Society’s collections.

As part of Newport History Tours, the Society’s partnership with the Newport Restoration Foundation, walking tours depart daily during Newport Winter Festival. Tours cost $15 per person, $12 for Newport Winter Festival button holders, and $10 for Society members. Click here for the complete tour schedule.

The Museum of Newport History, located in the Brick Market: Museum & Shop at 127 Thames Street at the foot of Washington Square, opens daily at 10am; admission is by donation. Validated parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building.
