The Newport Historical Society’s History Bytes blog has grown in popularity since its first appearance in 2011. Illustrated with images of objects, documents and photographs from the NHS collections, the blog features people, events and episodes in Newport’s history that emphasize their connections to popular culture, current events and American history at large.

To capture and highlight the entries that brought the greatest response, the Historical Society recently published the book Newport History Bytes: 50 Fast Facts. Join members of the NHS staff for a talk discussing the inspiration for the blog and the book, Newport’s unique history and its connections to the wider world. The presentation will include a behind-the-scenes look at the research process and offer details about select entries that weren’t published. A book signing will follow the discussion.
