On the morning of October 20th, the Governor of Rhode Island created a commission to prepare an updated application towards becoming a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ceremony was led by NHS Executive Director Ruth Taylor, with remarks made by Governor Lincoln Chafee, Mayor Harry Winthrop and Newport Restoration Foundation Executive Director Pieter Roos. Many town leaders were present along with members of the Newport Artillery Company.
