The Brick Market (1762), which had stood dormant for several years, underwent an extensive restoration by the Brick Market Foundation, chaired by Ralph E. Carpenter.

The Museum was developed by the staff of the Newport Historical Society under the leadership of president Samuel M.C. Barker and design consultant Stuart Parnes of Mystic Seaport.
